It's been nearly 3 weeks since my last blog post and I have been a busy bee, but not too busy. The competition I was running over on my Facebook page ended a week ago and I was so pleased that my plan for one of the chickens successfully picking the winner worked... Paloma (#obvs) picked the very lovely Sue Bird as the winner; a rather apt name I feel. Sue lived locally, in the most beautiful little cottage tucked away. It was a haven, light in some places with dark nooks and beams in other places, so much character and as I love a nosey of peoples houses I was more than happy to carry the chair and the mirror in so Sue could decide. I was so pleased as Sue decided she would buy the chair to match the mirror she chose as her prize. Well done again Sue and I hope they have settled into their new home :-)
This past week I have really been experimenting with creating aged paint effects. Chippy paint, distressing, ageing... whichever your preferred description. It is the effect you can give new pieces to look old, weathered and I personally think; well loved. It is such fun and a perfect way to unleash ones creativity and I'm quite hooked.
Here is the pine console table I have been working on, the original pine table isn't the exact table in the photo as I forgot to take a before photo but it's close enough. Here you can see the layering I have painted on with so many colours I care to mention. I have also added thickness and texture to certain areas which again makes the piece look as though it has many layers of paint slapped on over it's lifetime. Finally it has been finished with a touch of gold detailing. I call it my "Mermaid Table", which if the feeling takes you, you can buy it here
Finally I have been contacted by a lady wishing to have a thread art of a gecko created for her friend, who is gecko mad. I am just in the early design stages at the moment, but I am excited to see how it's going to turn out.
On a personal note I am also finally starting to do some pieces for our home, starting first with a little cupboard for my boys. It is a real drab, shabby old tool cupboard with inferior wood but I have a feeling it's going to have quite the transformation. I am using gold, navy and light blue... Photos to follow soon.
Wishing you all a good week, fingers crossed for some sunshine.
